Rough estimate: If Dogecoin were to this moment be as valuable as Bitcoin, 1 DOG = 0.00021 BTC ≈ 0.15 USD with a 33332% increase in value.

My math might be flawed so help me out here, but I've calculated that if Dogecoin were to instantly be as valuable as Bitcoin at the time of this post it would have a 1 USD to 7 Dogecoin exchange rate.
The math here is very simple. I took the max potential Dogecoins and divided those by the max potential Bitcoins. I then took that number and divided it by the current value of 1 BTC to USD.
100,000,000,000 / 21,000,000 ≈ 4761.9
4761.9 / 680 ≈ 7
These same numbers will also show us that we will probably never see Dogecoin trading for more than 1 Doge to .00021 BTC on the exchanges.
21,000,000 / 100,000,000,000 = 0.00021
Lastly, we can also calculate how much growth Dogecoin will see if it were to grow to the same value as Bitcoin using today's Dogecoin to Bitcoin exchange rate and the 0.00021 exchange rate from above which show a 33332% increase in value.
0.00021 / .00000063 ≈ 333.32 x 100 = 33332%
Please take note that these estimates are very simple and ignoring many other variables, but I just thought I'd share these calculations with everyone.

Preparing Mix Tape #1 - Organization and Participants!

Update: Sign ups all done and confirmed! I'll post the megathread in a few hours with a starting time, the theme and everything. I know the day the deadline is going to be, it's going to be Monday the 23rd, so you need to submit your games before the time I post in the megathread.

Hello everyone,

Before I start and if you are sitting here asking yourself what a mix tape is, check out these two posts!
Should we be making indie game mix tapes?
Testing /IndieDev Mix Tape #0
I also posted about this to /bitcoin and /dogecoin!
To Bitcoin
To Dogecoin
Okay, now that we are all on the same page, we need to organize a few things!

1. Participants

So far, these developers have shown interest in being a part of the first Mix Tape.
  1. Arowx
  2. AppIzor
  3. WriterOfAlicrow
  4. Enemby
  5. Cellosan
  6. absolutelyalmost
  7. snoutup
  8. BuzzBadpants
  9. thatguynm
  10. NeoShamanGames
  11. TheTacoLoco
  12. paetramon
  13. MrTedders
  14. ValentineBlacker
  15. galacticdude7
  16. OOGIDIBA
As you can see, there are 16 slots! The developers on the list can either confirm in the comments that they want to participate or reply to the PM I'll be sending them shortly.

Update: Sign ups all done and confirmed! I'll post the megathread in a few hours with a starting time, the theme and everything. I know the day the deadline is going to be, it's going to be Monday the 23rd, so you need to submit your games before the time I post in the megathread.

Make sure you understand what we expect of you before commenting and remember if this is successful, there will be more mix tapes in the future!

2. Organization

The first mix tape will be organized as it was presented in the mock up, so check that out if you haven't already.
Here's a quick step by step summary of what you do after the mix tape jam starts:
  1. The developers post their first comment outlining their idea for the game and edit the comment when they have something to share. Treat it as a blog, a newsfeed, or whatever floats your boat. You can post a link to a livestream of you making the game when you're working on it, for example! Be sure to state if the game will be downloadable or a browser game.
  2. Work on the game and as you work, people will come and go to the thread, post feedback and throw tips in the jar or if you're lucky, will tip you directly. That's why you need to have the best game out of all participants! ;)
  3. The first Mix Tape is simple. When your game is done, post a link to the download or a link to the browser game. I'll collect all downloadable games, put them all in a zip on Dropbox and make that available for people to download. I'll include links to the browser games as well.
  4. After the Mix Tape is done, be sure to provide bug fixes, updates and patches in your original comment or replies.
  5. You keep your personal tips and the tips from the jar will be evenly distributed to all participating developers.
So the better people like your idea, the more tips you get. But also, since the mix tape jam will be longer, games are expected to be more polished than from a typical game jam and progress should be documented in the comments. If there are no updates and the game is a rushed low-quality game, then the other developer may feel it to be unfair to evenly split the tip jar and we'd have to get together and talk it over.
Think of this mix tape as a showcase of your game but also of you as a developer! Take pride in your work and presentation! If there is a lesson I hope everyone can learn from this, that's the importance of presentation. Again, nothing is stopping people from tipping you directly.

3. Things to Agree Upon

Okay so we need to establish a few things.

How much time should the first mix tape be made in?

This'll be in weeks... so one week? Two weeks? Three weeks? Four weeks?
I think two weeks should be fine. It's not so long that people lose interest and gives you more time than a typical game jam. Of course you guys decide, so 4 weeks is also okay!

What should the logo be?

Right now we have a few suggestions.
  1. Arowx's version is this
  2. Cellosan has this
  3. Cellosan also posted this as a theme for the logo
Thoughts? You can suggest your own version as well!

OS and Platforms?

I think all the games should be able to run in Windows, but if you can, be sure to submit other versions of your game!
If the game is online, be sure to state that in your comment post.
For the first mix tape we'll keep it simple, but if the idea gets popular, we can also hold all Linux mixtapes or all Android or iOS mixtapes in the future.

Dogecoin and Bitcoin

To keep things simple and transparent so that everyone sees where the tips are going and can calculate how much they should receive, we'll use changetip and dogetipbot for the tips.
Be sure to get an account linked to your reddit account at cointip.com and dogetipbot.com. Your tips will be safe there until you choose to send them somewhere else! All the tips go to the participating developers.
Check out the Q&A hosted by one of the /dogecoin mods if you have questions about cryptocurrency!

That's it!

We'll discuss the points I raised and anything else you want to discuss and once we figure out who's in the first mix tape, we'll start it up!!!!

Update: Sign ups all done and confirmed! I'll post the megathread in a few hours with a starting time, the theme and everything. I know the day the deadline is going to be, it's going to be Monday the 23rd, so you need to submit your games before the time I post in the megathread.

[Shibenomics 101] Market Cap? GDP? PPP? Moon???

So there's been an unbelievable multitude of threads ranging from "Shibes, is Ð1 = $1 possible?" to "Shibes, Ð1 can never be $1, stop dreaming."
first of all, never tell a shibe not to dream.
second of all, much much more than the ratio of dogecoins to bitcoins to dollars determines the exchange rate of a currency, and that is the subject of today's shibenomics lesson.
Everyshibe has probably heard of GDP, but to define it very quickly - the gross domestic product is the value of all goods and services produced in an economy over a period of time. Normally, GDP is calculated per year, but for the analysis in this article and dogecoin in general, i find it more constructive to think of GDP per day.
Now, how can we possibly find out what the GDP of dogecoin is? The USD has a whole bureau of economic analysis to do that and they still get it wrong half the time...
Herein lies one of the many beauties of the blockchain. The block chain is like a public ledger of every transaction in dogecoin, EVER - which means we can just find the last block with a transaction on Wednesday, January 15th, and the last block with a transaction on Thursday, January 16th, and every transaction in between is part of the GDP for Jan 16th.
note: shibes already versed in economics will point out that some of these transactions may not be for goods and services, but rather conversions from USD or BTC, and some of them may be double counted because they are buying an ingredient for something they plan to sell later for more dogecoins - these objections are somewhat correct, but systematically overestimating GDP means you can still measure GDP change over time, which is what we're really concerned about, and conversions from other currencies are our equivalent of exports
So, as of now, our GDP on January 16th was a whopping 46,793,497,531 DOGE ($18,078,761 USD). Before you object about pay-it-forward threads and tipping and such, let me remind you - tips are a micro-transaction for a service (the service of making you smile :) ) and pay-it-forward threads are the shibe version of state-sanctioned lottery - which is the service of gambling. Now, gambling and entertainment an economy do not make, but 18 million dollars is a pretty big deal. Only bitcoin, litecoin, and quarkcoin have higher GDPs per day than dogecoin, and among those only dogecoin has a reasonably sustainable average transaction value (~$200 vs >$8000).
Ok, so now we know dogecoin has a GDP, and that shibes can feel pretty good about it. Even more impressive, dogecoin GDP has grown from $6.74 million on December 18th to $18 million today - 3.22% per day - at current growth rates, our GDP this time next year would be $1.78 TRILLION (11% of the US economy). Now this is probably unsustainable, but even growing at 20% of our current growth rate for a year would leave us only behind bitcoin in GDP per day.
Now let's consider market cap - the first thing that is striking about dogecoin isn't that its 6th most valuable in terms of market cap - its that dogecoin is the only crypto who's GDP exceeds its market cap, and that too by a whopping 62%. This means that for every 1 dogecoin you spent today, 61.7% of that dogecoin was passed on, and then passed on again, and so on. The velocity of money in the doge economy is ludicrous, and it confers a high degree of stability unto our economy, so kudos all around! A fast velocity of money not only helps fight changes in prices, it also makes it possible to post very high GDP numbers without having a large monetary base.
Apart from this, its also worthwhile to note that our market cap in USD has grown by around 3.6% per day, while the number of dogecoins added to circulation grows by around 2% per day - so despite all the mining, dogecoin has been appreciating in value quite rapidly in value.
On a more theoretical note, it is worth spending a moment to consider PPP (purchasing power parity). In high school economics, PPP means that a big mac in the United States should cost the same amount of real value as a big mac in China, and that the exchange rates will move to reflect that reality. In reality, PPP is more of a goal than a law - it's pretty hard to buy a big mac in China and bring it to the United States so that you get your food cheaper at lunch. In cryptoworld, however, PPP is the law - a bitcoin must cost the same amount in litecoins, dollars, and dogecoins, and the exchange rates will change to reflect that. PPP has so far been strongly determined by the BTC, LTC, DOGE triangle, as there is still not a large volume USD/DOGE exchange to allow arbitrage between the USD/BTC/DOGE (arbitrage is the force that makes PPP a law). Thankfully, a DOGE/USD exchange is probably just around the corner, and so soon we should see DOGE/USD and DOGE/BTC stabilize a bit because of this.
PPP also extends to the world of mining - a kh/s mined on one currency will try to be worth as much as a kh/s mined on another currency - the best example of this is multipool. Right now, it is highly profitable to mine dogecoins because of the strong economy & exchange rate and the low block difficulty, compared to other alt coins relatively weak exchange rates and higher difficulties. Each coin has a predetermined global hash rate it will support based on its coin reward and target block time, and uses the difficulty to keep the reward & timing schedule intact.
What this means is that as more miners work on dogecoin, it becomes less profitable to mine doge unless its value relative to the other cryptos goes up - and this is the cause for the cycles of highs and lows we see in DOGE/BTC. These cycles will probably not stop after the February 14th block halving, but they will be occuring at higher and higher valuations.
It's a point of shibe pride to mention that of all the cryptos, dogecoin probably has the least wealth concentration - the top 100 transactions in dogecoin are only 3.15% of the daily transaction value, whereas for other currencies that number can reach near 50%.
In conclusion, it'll probably be disappointing to hear that I have no clue where DOGE/USD or DOGE/BTC will be in a week, much less when it will hit 1 dogecoin per 1 USD. What I can say, and what should be evident from the numbers, is that dogecoin is developing a strong economic foundation unlike any of the other altcoins, and is much less seedy than bitcoin's early economy. Some of the core difficulties of dogecoin going forward are going to be maintaining our ludicrous velocity of money, which means finding and developing new markets for tipping, diversifying our economy away from mainly tipping while keeping a focus on micro-transactions, and creating a more effective store of value besides hoarding coins in a wallet or giving them away in PIF threads and waiting for them to come back.
TL;DR - TO THE MOON!

Major issues with MultiDoge, details inside, please help.

Hey everyone!
Overview
Longtime noob here. I bought 50,000 Dogecoin back in 2014 which cost me about $20.00 at the time. I had kinda forgot about it, but with the recent news of Bitcoin I decided the check out the current value and to my surprise it is worth over a hundred dollars now. Even back in 2014 I didn't really understand cryptocurrency or block chain, and still don't to this day, I was really just in it for the memes.
Problem
When I bought my Dogecoin I moved it to Multidoge on an old computer. Yesterday I load up the computer and wouldn't you know I know have Windows 10 instead of Windows 8. I open up Multidoge and everything seems to work, I update it to the newest release and I am able to see my coins.
I was going to sell my Dogecoin for Bitcoin and learned that I need to let Multidoge synchronize with the block chain. This was taking a long time so I left my computer on over night to synchronize. I wake up this morning and Windows has proudly installed updates, and restarted my computer. Now I can't even open Multidoge after installing a second version of 0.1.7 (I didn't want to uninstall the first version since I don't know how to access the .config files to backup my wallet. I hope I got that all right.
TL;DR: How do I get Multidoge to open up again and make sure my wallet is safe during the troubleshooting process? Also I was going to transfer Dogecoin to Bitcoin through ShapeShift, but didn't know if that requires me to enter the password for my wallet. I assume it will, but I haven't gotten that far, and as of right now I can't remember my password.........
Thanks for any and all advice that you are able to give. Also please ELI5 if possible! Thanks and I'm proud to see that we have made a lot of process towards the moon since 2014 :D

Lost coins or need to upgrade wallet?

Hi Everyone,
*Super newbie here....I had mined Dogecoins a few years ago, accumulated them in my doge wallet, but then just completely forgot about them. I just recently opened it back up (Dogecoin v1.6) and I had a balance in it. I thought I should transfer it out before I completely forget it again. I just searched up what site would convert dogecoins to bitcoins and I found a site called ShapeShift. I followed their quick instructions to send my Dogecoins to this address DLUNjZAZ6wW9kcbxmWaeWR3zmM49cZmwzc and they would convert what Dogecoins I sent to Bitcoins and deposit that into my bitcoin wallet. However, the transaction never seemed to have gone through and my dogecoin wallet says I have sent the coins and they aren't in the wallet anymore.
Are my coins lost? Or the transaction never occurred because my wallet is out of sync? I'm on v1.6 and it tells me I am out of sync and I am 40 weeks behind. How can I sync my wallet again so it isn't 40 weeks behind and find out what happened to those coins.
Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!

A Beginner's Guide to Buying and Selling Dogecoin (for those that still don't understand)

It all started with a simple thread last night (you can see here), where hasek747 and I realized that there isn't a concise guide for those coming into the dogecoin game, and just want to buy!
We pride ourselves on being an open community that is easy to get into (some call the post-bitcoin-I-want-to-feel-like-I-own-something jump), but if they were confused, where would they turn? Now they can go here!
So we created a simple 4 step guide for buying and selling dogecoin. We broke it down so even your grandmother could understand it, because we felt that everyone should be able to easily figure it out. And although the other guides are great, they cover a LOT. Some people don't understand code, mining, the works. They just want to buy. So link them to this post whenever they are confused. There is even a picture tutorial to go along with the post! We would love to hear feedback on this, and hopefully come out with a prettier v2.0 in the future.
Maybe we'll even make it to the sidebar!
ENGAGE HOW TO
Buying and selling dogecoins is dirt simple, and takes no more than following 4 simple steps. Follow along and you, too, will be going to the moon.
If you are a more visual person, here is how to do it in, picture-form!
Before you begin: As of right now, dogecoins cannot be purchased using USD. Instead, you will need to purchase bitcoins, which are another form of digital currency, to exchange for your dogecoins. Never fear, this is actually much easier to do than it sounds, so follow along. You can learn more about bitcoins here.
Step 1: Decide how many dogecoins you want to buy, and then use this dogecoin to bitcoins conversion tool or this one to figure out how many bitcoins you will need for your transaction. Input how many dogecoins you want in the converter, and you'll be told exactly how many BTC you will need to pay for them.
Step 2: Head over to coinbase and sign up for a free account. After you login, hit the fun "buy/sell" button on the left and follow directions to buy the appropriate amount of bitcoins, as determined in step one. You'll have a few different payment options available, so choose the one that is most convenient for you. We're halfway through!
Step 3: Now that you have your bitcoins, it's time to exchange them for dogecoins! There are a few exchanges where you can do this, however the most reputable ones are:
Choose any of the above and register a free account (takes less than a minute). After you login to the newly-created account, you'll be provided with a unique account number (called "Bitcoin Address"). Copy this address, then head back over to your coinbase account (created in step #2), and go to the "Send/Request" menu. There you will paste your address into the "Bitcoin Address" field and transfer the money to the exchange.
Step 4: Once your bitcoins have been transferred from coinbase to your exchange of choice, go back to your exchange account and head over to the DOGE/BTC tab to exchange your bitcoins for dogecoins. Congratulations, you're ready to go to the moon!! You can now send your dogecoins to anyone you want and pay for services and products at merchants that accept these coins.
Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Should I keep my dogecoins in the exchange?
Answer: While it's perfectly fine to keep your dogecoins in the exchange, you can also transfer them to a personal wallet for more privacy and control. If you want to do that, go to dogewallet doegvault and sign up for a free account - this will serve as your digital wallet for holding, sending and receiving dogecoins. After logging in, you'll be provided with your own personal dogecoin address - simply transfer all of your doges from your exchanger account to this address, and you're done. If you prefer to have things offline, check out dogecoin-qt for a wallet on your computer!
Question: I have bought the bitcoins 5 minutes ago but still have not received them. What's up?
Answer: This is completely normal in the case of new accounts. Just be patient and wait for your bitcoins to arrive - they definitely will. Depending on traffic, it may take more time than you want, but trust us, they will arrive!
Question: doge is a word that I’ve never seen before! How do you pronounce it?
Answer: This is a commonly asked question, much like did the chicken or the egg come first? The general consensus is that it is pronounced “d-OH-g”. Some people also pronounce it “doggy”.
EDIT:changed the pronunciation because I am lame and put the some one twice.
EDIT2:changed the online wallet option and gave another option for DOGE/BTC

Fact of the Day: Dogecoin holds all the records for most transactions per day. At its peak, it had 1.5-3X the volume of transactions per day as bitcoin. For 3 months. No other altcoin comes close to doge in this stat.

Edit: Even today, dogecoin dwarfs other altcoins (not bitcoin) in transactions per day.

What would be the best way to convert my dogecoin into bitcoin?

I have an amount of dogecoin, but I'm pretty new to bitcoin. I know, I traded some stuff on cryptsy years ago, but that's all gone now. What is the safest way to convert my dogecoin to bitcoin? I should add, I'm 16, and (ideally) would prefer my parents didn't know, they're very outspoken against cryptocurrencies. I simply don't want to be stuck with this deflating currency.

Dutch newspaper "Volkskrant" says "Dogecoin conquers the digital currency market"

They write about how dogecoin went "viral" much like the meme. They compare dogecoin to bitcoin and say dogecoin already has more transactions. They explain where the meme comes from and talk about the many charities dogecoin has been involved with in such a small time span. Is my cryptocurrency flow safe? How do I safely go from dogecoin to bitcoin?

I'm completely new to cryptocurrency here, and my endgoal here is to convert to bitcoin without resorting to the pains of setting up mining pools or scripts or whatever.
So currently, I have cryptocurrency faucets sending free currency to coinpot.co
Then I convert it all to dogecoin to withdraw for zero fees.
The problem here is I have no idea how to go from dogecoin to bitcoin without using coinpot.co withdraw with a fee.
